Please look at this... Something kinda goofy... or this one

I would like opinions. How stupid it would it be. Consider I'd have to learn to drive, so it would get beat to all hell anyway. I'd also have to get it home. And last but never least, I owe people money. As well as have a few obligations.

Should I get it and would anyone be able/willing to help me fix it up?

Have I mentioned I really really really really want a motorcycle?

Ahem.

You should totally get the bike. Bike's are super hot and I would love to learn how to fuckin' fix a bike along with you since I want one later anyway.

And, apparently, I'm typing at a third grade level.

Which needless to say, any third grader that uses the word 'fuckin' in context is pretty god damn smart.

Anyway.

Here's Simba.

So I disagree, but not because I have a problem with Bikes.. They're really dangerous but folks shouldn't be too afraid of risks. However, the fact that you're asking for confirmation of whether you think it's a good idea or not suggests that you think it's not a good idea, and you'd be the best judge of your own situation :)

It's more of a 'are either of THESE bikes a good idea'. Plus I owe some people some money...

Out of those two bikes, I would suggest the second one (that has less than 30 minutes to go as I write this). It runs and would let you ride right away. You could then spend your time learning riding skills and doing the fun cosmetic stuff instead of screwing around trying to fix a carb (believe me, carbs are sonovabitches to fix).

Whether or not you should get either one is up to you ; )

Ok, you want opinions:

Bike #1, not only "no" but "hell no"! Twenty-six years and only 10,000 but it is in "fair" condition and may need some carb work? I would not even consider this one without actually hearing it run under weight. It is also only a 750cc - not nearly enough bike for you.

Bike #2 is only a 400cc. You have, um, personal applicances with more horsepower. Seriously.

All that aside, just about everyone who knows you knows you really want a motorcycle. Before you start worrying about whether you should buy one given what other responsibilities you have, you should go to dealer and rallys and get a feel for the type of bike you really want.

Even knowing as little as I do about bikes I would say bike number one is a shady deal. A bike that old only showing that many miles? I. Don't. Think. So. Esp. not if it needs carb work. (I don't know bikes but I've driven beater cars all my life.) Bike 2. eh. probably not worth the min. bid.

Go with Vlad's suggestion. Cruise a few. Hey, I'd happily head up to Quarter Moon (is that the name?) restaurant, up on 41 on an early Sunday morning to go drool over bikes.

My personal opinions aside (being generally against Japanese bikes in general, preferring Harleys, BMWs and Triumphs myself), as Vlad said, not enough power for you, and get one in decent working shape rather than one you need to fix up before you can ride it.

Yeah, go to a dealership, a couple of rallys or shows, get a feel for what you would be comfortable riding before buying blindly from ebay.
