Does anyone know of a good, safe program to convert DVD's so I can download them to my ipod? I'd really rather not pay for movies I may already own just so I can watch my on my ipod. :P

The program you want is DVDFAB

http://www.dvdfab.com/

I got a Ipod Touch for Xmas and my Father in Law put me onto this program

You run the program, insert your DVD, choose the "For iPod" option, tell it which pod you're using and let it run.. take 40 minutes or so to convert the disk to a .mp4.. then load that on your iPod and enjoy..

It does MUCH more than that, but right now, its all I use it for..

Hmm, sounds like it's got real potential. Any problems with spyware or such?

Hm, seems like I may be downloading some new software when I get home. I'll probably poke around a bit more first. But that really seems to be what I'm looking for. :)

DVD Fab is awesome. I don't know how it is for ripping movies, but for copying, I know it works great.

Oh, that sucks. You have to buy one of the others to get the mobile options. bugger that... it would be 60 bucks to just get what I need. :P

If you have a Mac, I highly recommend Handbrake.

Handbrake is also vailable for Windows. However, my experience with it has been substantially frustrating. If you try DVDFAB and like it, stay with that. Handbrake will not improve your quality of life.

yeah, i'm going to do a smidge more looking, but dvdfab seems to be it. I just don't want to have to pay apple money for movies I already own, so i can watch them on my ipod. bugger that.

Ditto Handbrake, both as good and frustrating. I've ended up with a two-part process:
1. Decrypt the DVD to HD with DVD Decryptor
2. Convert to iPod with Handbrake

The GUI for Windows Handbrake is pretty terrible, but usable - hopefully they've got rid of that nice 'feature' where you would set up a queue of movies to process overnight...and then it would prompt you after each one that it was done, before moving to the next! Sure defeats the purpose of a queue.
