So, if you were looking through my cd collection. What's a cd you think I absolutely have to have in it and would be aghast to see I didn't?

I've been on a music kick. So, this is your chance. What should I have?

I don't know your musical tastes, but I do know that the one disc I've been recommending to everyone is Mika's album, titled "Life in Cartoon Motion."

I'm not usually one for pop music, but this feels very different. There's not a single song on the album that I hate. I enjoy almost every song, and there's just one or two that I'm kinda 'meh' about.

You can get it on iTunes or at a music store, and you can hear some of the tracks at www.mikasounds.com

I have a vast range in musical taste, hence not placing any restrictions on what kind of cd.

Ahh, so like me, 'anything that's good' is your only real restriction :)

To give you an idea, in the last two weeks I've bought Insane Clown Posse (deranged rap), Santana, Matchbox 20, Jason Mraz & Goo Goo Dolls. :)

Anything by Nickel Creek. For a good starting point, though, go with Reasons Why: Greatest Hits.

First thought: bluegrass, then bluegrass mixed with pop, then you listen to the lyrics and you realize this is some complex, sometimes dark stuff. Great music, and great songs.

This isn't necessarily in the "I expect you to have it" category, but an album I think you'd enjoy is The Hush Sound's Like Vines. Really interesting piano-based pop, really lush, with cool alternating male-and-female vocals. I suspect I'll be recommending their new album, Goodbye Blues, even harder when it comes out in a couple of weeks, because the songs I've heard so far I've fallen head over heels in love with.

You can always hear them on their MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/thehushsound), if you're curious. :)

Can't say there's anything I'd be horrified and shun you if you don't have it, but I think you'd enjoy Kirsty MacColl's Tropical Brainstorm.

Matisyahu, John Legend and Snow Patrol.

Matisyahu only has the one album and the other two have two, I believe, both of which are pretty good.

Tom Lehrer. Anything by Tom Lehrer. The man may be solely responsible for my sense of humor.

Afro Celt Sound System - Volume 3.
Billy Joel's Storm Front (Yes, I'm old, but its good.)
Santana - Dance of the Rainbow Serpent (3 disks)
Clint Black - Nothin' but the Taillights
Dandelion Wine - Cheap Hooch
Eagles - Hotel California (again, I'm old)
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Facing Future ('cause it is just different, and very good)

Jethro Tull - 20 Years: Highlights
Jim Croce - Live, the Final Tour
Molly & the Tinker - Fifteen Years
Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble - Greatest Hits

and finally,
Uncle Bonsai - The Inessential Uncle Bonsai

there's this band called gaelic storm, I think you'd probably like them ;)

In all seriousness, NeedFire is pretty decent celtic/pop. And it has didj!
I'm loving Matt Nathanson's "Some Mad Hope" like madly.
And for 80's sorta soft rock/catchy as all get out music, Breathe's "All that Jazz".
