And people wonder why there are no open invite parties in LAFF anymore.

I am a founding member of LAFF. When the 'group' was formed (having switched from the 'Chicago' list it was before) I was the token female. Me, that's it. A large gathering was, 15 people. I remember having Devious' (not Devious Bruin, he came later) bday party and having 15 people show up and thinking how freaking huge that was. I would throw parties at my old place, post it to the list and a lot of people would show up. I've had up to 45 people at my old place. I didn't have problems, other then running out of space. We used to do weekly movie nights at Gurnee cinema (mostly weekly, there were just some weeks there wasn't a movie worth seeing). We'd have a good 2 dozen show up at times. That was about 6 years ago. We didn't have to tell people to stop doing stupid shit. So, what's happened?

I've lost track of how many people there are in LAFF now. They all seem to think they've reinvented it. I'm sick of the bull shit. I'm sick of the fucking kids. No this does not apply to all. But it applies to some.

No, I don't think there needs to be security at bowling. No I don't think there needs to be a code of conduct. I think bowling should be canceled for a few months, even up to six months. Why should the good be punished for the bad? I don't know, why did your teacher cancel recess cause only a few were being bad. Because whatever they are doing stops being funny when you get punished for what they are doing.

WE ARE FUCKING ADULTS. Or at least some of us.

There is a difference between fun and stupidity.

I was an annoying late teen, early twentier in the LAFF group. But you know what, I can't see how me (or any of the others who were the same age as me) where this fucking annoying. Whining about everything damn thing. Going on and on and on about the littlest fucking shit. It's bowling. It's something you do once a month because. It's message board. It's been tried. There is supposed to be some rambling traffic on the LAFF list. it's there for that. IT'S NOT THERE FOR FUCKING DEBATE OVER WHO'S RIGHT AND WRONG AND WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO 'MAKE IT BETTER'. Besides the concept of people getting pissed off for PDA when a good chunk of the group dresses in silly animal costumes to bowl is asinine. And no, I'm not saying that humping people on the floor is ok. PDA and being an idiot are two different things.

All I know, is there is a reason I don't go to bowling and there is a HUGE FUCKING REASON I don't have open invite parties anymore.

This post may not have made sense. Sure it may have been pointed at some. And I'm sure it's going to piss someone off. I don't care. It was my rambling response to the constant bull shit chatter that has gotten to be the LAFF list. STFU.

*applause*

And this is why I don't go to LAFF events anymore.

Well said... now go to bed. :P

Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence.

Oh wait that's right I call it LAFF Furry Softball, so it's not one of those events you're talking about. Never mind.

If it weren't for the fact that the softball games are my only opportunity to see certain people, like Quasi and the like, I probably would have stopped going to the softball games as well. I prefer going places where I know that the majority of the people there know how to act in both public and private, like this past weekend. Or our trips to MI.

you mean a sports event attracts a better (and more active) crowd than bowling? Maybe there's a trend there.

Bear in mind that softball is an outdoor activity, and the majority of furries have this aversion to sunlight or fresh air. Therefore, the ones that do show up are the ones who have enough common sense to behave properly. *nod*

Well, that and you have to run. A furry track meet would have low attendance but it'd be pretty non-average attendance.

Yes, it's fucking stupid what's going on. Mostly it's over-reaction and people trying to make politics out of something a few people did. A few people associated with our "group". Typical reaction from the fandom tho, find the scapegoat and run it off the cliff.

From: [identity profile] steviemaxwell.livejournal.com
Ooh, can I be the scapegoat? I'm pretty sure once I've been ousted from the fandom that no one will miss me anyway and social gatherings will run so much smoother.

But then it'd have to change from "beat" to "elect".

Man, I am glad I don't attend LAFF events anymore, just the list offers enough soap opera dork drama to watch passively to convince anyone over 25 that this stuff isn't worth the bother.

I don't even read the list any more... haven't been on the list in over a year. It's amazing how much less drama there is in my life.

Hey, I don't wonder why -- I know why! I mean I like young people, so it's not a matter of age, but when this whiny drama crap starts happening, I really do feel like I'm just too old to be involved with this stuff. I shouldn't feel that way!

Remember LAFFcon -1? (For that matter, LAFFcon 0.) I think we had something like 80 people there and didn't have these kinds of problems. It really is enough that some days I start to consider unsubscribing from the list. As it is, I hardly ever post. I don't know most of these people -- if I spoke up on most things these days, I think I'd get a "Who the hell are you?" response.

*sigh*

Heh. We had problems at LaffCon-1 (and LaffCon 0), but they were small little problems that those of us in charge took care of by taking the person aside and slapping them upside the head. I can't decide if the change in perspective of the group is because LAFF/Furry Fandom is recruiting stupider people or if it's just that those of us With Clue(tm) are just too fucking tired to whack people upside the head when they need it.

Everyone sits on their ass bitching about it and discussing it instead of kicking the person out of the event. Boot to the head!

Next time let me know I'll be happy to kick said individuals out of the event, it's much preferable to listening to the ranting on the LAFF list. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Right now it's not just one person. Knowing kids and people who are having fun, that whatever they were doing at the time was funny. So few thought, hey they should stop that. Right now it's everyones fault. Not just a, b, or c's faults. everyone.

there needs to be a call for 'chill the fuck out'. stfu on the laff list, decide that if they do bowling again that everyone needs to monitor everyones actions. No security force, no codes of conduct. This has been to much bull shit over a fucking monthly bowling meet.

From: [identity profile] sockscatt.livejournal.com
But you know it's EASIER to find a scapegoat than it is to admit fault! At least it is in Furry circles. I'm TRYING to be voice of reason, it's not working. "OMG! WE NEED TO BAN HIM!!!!"

I just don't wanna lose friends over what ammounts to something minor.

I think that's what it is, honestly. I barely have the patience to deal with the people I like, much less the tolerance to babysit a bunch of people who come into this thing with some naive, happy-go-lucky attitude without stopping to think of the consequences of their actions. (And note, I didn't just say the young people. There are a few folks our age and even older who could use a healthy dose of Fucking Clue. {tm}) I find it easier to just stay away from those people and surround myself with the people that I do like, as rare as that might be most of the time.

I have a tendency to leave my Fucking Clue (tm) either in the car or at home. Maybe that's why I've been getting into so much trouble lately. Folks might even find out I'm sexually active or something. *gasp*

I consider that to be "no problem" -- the sitatuion occured, it was resolved, and no one bitched about it back and forth for the next week on the LAFF list! On that note, I think you're right that a lot of us are just overly tired to whack the ones that need it. Heck, even when it is my job there are times I'll just say "Screw it, I don't feel like dealing with them until after they hurt themselves."

I made an almost identical post to this last night, then I realized I hadn't posted in awhile and decided to just do some bullet points of my life in the last months... and the bullet points overtook the main post and I just deleted the first part of it.

I think I'll rewrite it now that I see this...

From: [identity profile] duncandahusky.livejournal.com
Oh, you mean The Real LAFF List? We'd tell you about it, but then we'd have to kill you.

Yes, this is a joke. Contrary to popular belief, there really is no such list.

Date: 2005-09-19 11:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aeto.livejournal.com
Yeah. I didn't really think such a list existed. (Though, I'm only half joking when I wonder if it should. :/ )

From: [identity profile] sylverfox.livejournal.com
At one point in time, it somewhat almost did, but the mere concept caused more drama than it was worth.

Date: 2005-09-19 11:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crim-ferret.livejournal.com
I don't even want to think about the drama that would cause...then again, those on said list wouldn't have to read it because they'd probably unsubscribe from the other list. Still, an evil idea.

I don't go to the bowling for several reasons. One, I don't much care for bowling. I have a hearing deficit that means trying to hold any sort of conversation there is virtually impossible for me. I have little in common with the puppies and can interact with my longtime friends in other places.

So yeah, there are private invite events on a fairly regular basis and occasionally new people get invited when they've shown they have some level of cluefullness. Others, well they can keep going to bowling.
