On the fly
Apr. 8th, 2003 04:22 pmSo, I'm safely in North Carolina. The plane trip was the closest to stressful I've had to deal with. I got to the airport 2 hours before my flight (like a good little girl) and found my flight was delayed. Would have been ok if I didn't have a connection to make only 30 minutes after touch down in Pittsburgh. So with some quick voodoo the nice guy behind the counter got me on a slightly earlier flight to Charlotte which would take me to Raleigh. So it's now about 5:30 and it's a 5:55 flight (delayed like everything else at O’Hare due to the snow/ice storm). Made my way to the security gate to be informed I had to go to the 'special' security gate. You know, the one set up to frisk everyone while they rummage through you're belongings. Somehow I managed to afford stress up til here. My shoes were already off (wore my steel toes-1 so I wouldn't have to pack more shoes, 2 for the move I figured the steel toes would be a better idea) and I had my jacket and laptop (pretty much used to taking that out of the bag as I walk up). The woman there was fairly entertained as Donnie Osmond and just gone through ahead of me. So that was the joke as I was there, since I was the only there other then the security staff, which I'm sure helped me out. I didn't care other then I had to walk completely back and passed the other security check to just to get to my gate. By the time I got my gate, I was winded a bit stressed (having talked to
takaza on the way to let him know I'd switched flights. 'You realize you have like 10 minutes to get there, hope you're almost there' Boy am I glad I didn't talk to him before the security gate. :P All was well except the delay actually getting off the ground. But the plan was half empty and I didn't have to worry about being wedge in by people. I'm fat, I don't need extra people taking up my space. :) Well, we landed and got to the gate in Charlotte at like 9:10. Board for my connection was to START at 9:10. AHH! I hate stress. So run halfway through the airport, knocking over many small children and old ladies on the way, and get there to find the other plane still hadn't LANDED. *sigh* More unwind time needed. I hate stress. Potty break, and a quick call to Takaza and I just sat and read. Tho I have to say the people watching is far more interest in NC then back home in Chicago. This flight was full, yet somehow the middle sit my isle was empty. Fine by me, I had space. This was only a 26 minute flight. And after all that I only arrived about 10 minutes earlier then I would have otherwise. Interesting tho when I met up with
duncandahusky he informed me my original flight (the one that would have taken me to Pittsburgh) had just landed in Pittsburgh. My connection left on time. :) Funny how things work out sometimes. I'm just thankful I made it safely and so did my luggage. So, I'll be back Tuesday evening. I'll spend portions of each day helping Duncan pack or move smaller things over to Franklins. The big moving with be Sunday I believe. I'll at least have a day to rest before going home. Lot of quality time with both Duncan and Takaza, tho since Taki works, more with Duncan. I don't mind, I love them both dearly. Maybe I'll go learn to do web pages. Gotta find some new way to kill time online. :D
