This has been bothering me more and more

I have a lot of friends on my friends list. I have a lot of friends who like to talk alot.

When at work I tend to just skim posts and actually read them when I get home.

I have one simple things to say..

LJ CUT!!!!! lj-cut or lj-cut text="Make my friends pages shorter please" + < > on each end!!! I don't know much html, but I know this. Hell, if you have the newest version of Semagic it's part of the tools.

Yes, i know some of you don't cut on purpose. It's annoying and rude. I don't care what you think. I and most others will read your post even if it is behind a cut tag. However, having ONE friends post take up the entirety of a page is to damn much. Yes, it is your LJ and no I don't have to read it. So when I un-friend you, don't get pissy at me for doing it.

who is this directed to? yes.

This post brought to you by a cranky wolf who's been worked to hard and hasn't had enough sleep...

Hey, I am with you on this one. Some of my friends are both verbose and prolific when it comes to their posts, and I am tired or having to skim past longer and longer rants that are becoming more and more frequent.

I'll second that.

Vlad posts quick! I'll third that then.

I beleive what you are looking for is:
<lj-cut></lj-cut>

or

<lj-cut text="Text of the cut intro goes here"></lj-cut>

Oh, and AMEN!

[identity profile] datahawk.livejournal.com 2005-03-23 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
the reason I didn't do that was cause it would have cut it. :P Hence the + < >. I didn't want it to cut the post I wanted everyone to see.

Well, the way around that is to use < and > as the left and right tags. See? You're learning already.

That lets
<lj-cut></lj-cut>

turn into the aforementioned

<lj-cut> </lj-cut>

I'm so vain. I probably think this post is about me.

If so, my bad.

I guess it wasn't me, or you would have told me, or I'd be off your friends list.

Really, I didn't see anything in your friend's page that was that terribly long. I've seen long posts, really loooong posts. If I write anything huge (like the losing my religion post, which was over 2000 words), I usually cut it.

One thing I did notice is that you're using one of LiveJournal's worst page designs for your friends page. It's the one with the user's icon centered next to the post. It's really hard to find where posts begin and end, especially for untitled posts, and it drives me nuts when I read stuff in that style.

If the design had a really clear boundary between posts, the eyes would find it faster. Then it'd be easier to skip past a long post, which is what I do at work when I don't have a lot of time to read.

Take a look at my friends page, or Vlad's. The clear horizontal elements between postings make it easy to eye-skip across them.

I don't know about Vlad's, but mine is a standard style with custom colors, I think it's based on Tabular Indent.

I'll try to watch my posting length. But you have control over what your friends list looks like as well, and maybe a different design would help.

the problem is, some of the ones posting are actually friends only posts, so you won't see them unless you are on their friends lists too.

Eep, sorry. I don't write long posts like the one I wrote Monday very often, so it slips my mind. I'll remember to snip it in the future. ^.^;

While I'm hoping that I'm not one of the folks that you were upset with (more precisely, I'm hoping that you consider me a good enough friend to tell me personally when you are peeved), I'm trying to keep an eye on my possible need for lj cuts. *smile*

*In Grampa Simpson voice* I'll be good...I promise...
