Yup

I'm one of THOSE people. I'm one of those sicko's that get up day after Thanksgiving and shop. Why? Awesome damn deals, man. I don't care about the people, my opinions of them couldn't be much lower then they are now. Ok, I must be off to save the world of.....something impressive I'm sure. Later!

*grin* I didn't do it this year. In past years, I was usually one of those weirdos that was up at 4 a.m., waiting in line and freezing my ass off in order to get the $19 flatbed scanner and $5 Barbies. This year...fuck it. I used to put so much pressure on myself to get big and impressive presents for people on my list (especially the former in-laws) and I just can't/won't do it anymore...

Last year, Chris and I started a tradition of smaller and exponentially happier Holidays. Not putting in 3-4 hours of shopping before going to the office today was my first act of defiance agaist consumerism.

That said, I'm off for my 8 hours of hypocrisy, trying to encourage others to spend...spend...spend like the wind! *sheepish look*

Honestly, for the most part, here there weren't nearly as many deals as prior years. However it got me up, out of the house and I spent a good part of the day with my mom (whom I like but never spend much time with).

I was just happy to have today off from work. :P

I respect that, but my pocket books says I need to go out there and get the deals. I love buying things for my friends. Wheither it be a small something they've wanted all year (and LOOK it's on sale!) or a big thing that I can justify more cause it's on sale. I agree, the holidays specifially have worked to be more greed based hear year. But I love this time of year (could just be the weather) no matter what.

And for the most part people weren't all that bad...til I got to wal-mart :P

Hmmph. You probably didn't even buy me any porn.

[identity profile] datahawk.livejournal.com 2004-11-26 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, you know you can't get the good pr0n at wal-mart. Gotta go to boystown for that :)

I am so there with you!! I went out at 5am today and got to 3 stores by 7:30. Fun was had. I hope you got some great deals.

[identity profile] datahawk.livejournal.com 2004-11-26 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I didn't get out til 6:30. But I managed to get everything I'd gone for. :)

I had to work, but if I didn't have to work, I would have been out there with you. Rick went shopping this morning though....I wonder if he survived! O.o

Something about doing it leads me to the 'beginning' of the season. It wasn't until halfway through the morning that it hit the holiday's were coming. And not in the 'OH MY GAWD the holidays are coming, kill me!!!' kind of way. Just a, 'yay, holiday's and christmas trees and lights on the windows and SNOW!!!

And White Christmas, Christmas Story, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation... ... I want a leg lamps....

Bleah, waking up early to...shop? I'll pass. I like to shop and all, just as much as the next gay guy, but, I have my limits.

[identity profile] datahawk.livejournal.com 2004-11-26 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I was only up 45 minutes earlier then I would be if I had to work. Ok, I didn't go to bed til 2, but I had issues I was dealing with my rat boy Spike.

As a retail employee, I just get to see the unpleasant side of 'Black Friday' Rude, greedy, pushy people trying to avoid paying a reasonable price for presents they are mostly getting to compensate for being such asshats to those they claim to care about the rest of the year.

There! I feel better. I got to get some cynisism out and use a really run on sentence to do it! ;-)

Actually it's somewhat entertaining being on the retail side of things. The higher-ups really don't care if we make money or not as long as the sales figures are better or at least as good as the year before. Those of us who've been around a few years just watch the circus, enjoy the free lunch we get, and manage to do as little work as possible.

I've worked the Holiday season from the retail end. I was lucky and didn't have to work Black Friday, but it was still pretty manic. :) You crappy old goat. ;)
