Ok, I give. Who knows Trillian? A friend was using my laptop to get some stuff done (which I don't mind I said they could) and added a connection to my Trillian account. Now, only their contacts are showings, even tho it claims I am logged in. There were two My Contacts tabs at the top of the screen that I some how did something with (shouldn't try to think before noon, I may never figure out what I did) and now can't figure out how to get them back and sure the hell don't know what the hell to do to get MY CONTACTS!!!! back. I'm not blaming anybody (yet) I'm just really not happy about this inconvenience. :P

Hey, Zel said to look for the 'connection manager' and you should be able to fix everything from there... but let him know if you're stiil stuck I'm sure he can help you fix it, we used to run Trillian before we got the new comp and have separate user accounts. *hugs*

I was poking around in that and can't figure it out.

When you go to log in, does it give you the option of which profile to log in to?

[identity profile] datahawk.livejournal.com 2004-09-28 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
No it doesn't. I have it set to auto log me in. :P

I created a new contact list to store my contacts, and I told it not to log me automatically. Your contacts should still be showing under "My Contacts"... I was having the same problem when I was trying to set it up, which is why it created that second "My Contacts" list (which I went in and deleted everything from, since it was only *my* contacts... I checked to make sure of that before I got rid of it. I couldn't actually delete the folder though.

If you want, I can come back out there and see if I can figure it out.

And I must have kept opening the one with no contacts in it (I said I shouldn't do this shit before noon) cause for the life of me I kept thinking they were both empty. I don't know if I delete the My Contacts tabs. The only one listed is yours and I may have (in my dinking around) cleared that too :P) the tab is still there but I didn't see anything in it when I opened it. I know it's possible to have multiple log in's in trillian, cause I'd set one up at your place when BJ still had his machine there. I just don't ever have to mess with it. :P

And my machine and me won't be home tonight. I'm taking it with to Lupes 1) in case we need to download anything 2) to try and fix this damn thing. :P

That's why I said when you walked in that your machine was confusing me. :) The alternate logins thing is totally different between the paid version and the free version. Yes, it's possible int he free version, and all you do is go to the options and say "Log in as different user"... that didn't seem to be as apparent an option in the paid version. :P

I knew you wouldn't be home-- didn't realize your machine was going with you. Like I said, though, I'm more than happy to help try to figure it out. Since it was so simple to do in the other version, I didn't realize it was going to be such a headache in *this* one. :P

Unfortunately, there's no way to have two separate user profiles under Trillian yet. This happened to me when I was in Michigan. I thought, using XP, that both Cindy and I could run Trillian with different contacts. Ran it and, suddenly, both of our contact lists merged, which wasn't good since both of our contact lists are so big. The good news though, is the fact that all the IM services except ICQ store their contact lists on their server, so your buddy lists are still on the server, but you might have to uninstall/reinstall Trillian to get everything set back up the way you had it. As far as ICQ goes, look for an .idx file on your machine. That will be your ICQ contact list. The file name will be (your icq #).idx. That will be the file that you will refer to when it asks you to import an old contact list.

In the future, if someone asks to use your machine for IM purposes, point them at AIM Express or ICQ2Go.

Hope that helps.

I wasn't asked.

and she was able to set up another log in and group. I have trillian pro.

Yes, you can set up a separate profile. When you tell it to create the new login, it asks you where to store the contacts.

Well, that seem to be a good theory. It didn't work that way. All our contacts are pretty well merged. Unless you gave everyone and thier brother my hotmail and icq. And everyone is showing when I have it open. I know there are far more showing thne I have in my contacts
